I’m somewhat annoyed by the fact that Scotch tape is treated like a controlled substance here. This is the second time now that I’ve had to tape a torn dollar bill back together, only for the manager on duty to confiscate the bill, sneak off to the office, and furtively repair it where no mere worker can see… and this time I didn’t get the bill back, so my drawer is going to be short at the end of the day.
I left a reminder about that in the drawer, because despite the assistant manager’s assurances, I know damn well that drawer accuracy is tracked and used as a performance metric even when the errors aren’t large enough to get them thinking about theft. In fact, that same assistant manager may have complimented my drawer accuracy in my last performance review.
…which is yet another example of how management wants workers knowing as little as possible about the business. The part about not wanting me to know they track drawer accuracy, that is. The part about not wanting me to know where they keep the tape is probably them being afraid that we might be able to put up a sign in a window…
