I don’t often see Canadian news these days unless I’m going out of my way on a specific subject, so I didn’t hear about this horseshit until this week:
The Canadian government is preparing to give away Canadians’ digital lives—to U.S. police, to the Donald Trump administration, and possibly to foreign spy agencies.
And I get why this seems like a big bad deal now, when the Canadian fedgov is selling its victims’ online lives out to Donald Trump. Because Trump is an assclown.
I am old enough, though, to remember Snowden’s revelations, among which was that the “Five Eyes” governments, Canada and the US among them, have been betraying their citizens to each other for years.
So my reaction was split between “wake up, sheeple, this has always been the case” and “more reminders of this shit are probably a good thing.” The second reaction is probably the healthier of the two…
