Well, that was a different couple of news cycles.
It started about a week and a half ago, when Dean Cain, of Lois & Clark, announced his support for ICE by enlisting as an honorary reserve ICEhole goodwill ambassador or something. (Police1, Fox News)
I don’t think I’m alone in my first reaction being “man, that ‘Superman was an immigrant’ talking point must have really hit a nerve if the fedgov is reaching back three decades to ‘Lois & Clark’ for a spokesman.”
If the fedgov really wanted a Superman actor as a flack, though – because (again) they’re butthurt about the “Superman is an immigrant” thing – what were their other choices?
Of the two widely-known movie Supermen, one has been dead for two decades and the other is British.
Tim Daly, maybe the best-known cartoon Superman, would probably tell them to shove it.
Adam Baldwin wouldn’t, but he’s much better known for another character, and he’s also too predictably righty for his support to be politically useful.
The mockery of other celebrities carried the story for another news cycle or so, with Cain having to assert that he isn’t just a has-been actor who’s mostly been doing video shovelware lately – he’s a patriotic supporter of the ICE goon squad and also a sworn in reserve police officer and deputy sheriff! Whee!
(He’s reportedly a reserve cop for a relatively poor town of 3,500, so I hope the town isn’t using too much of its budget on him. As for the rank of deputy sheriff, Steven Seagal: Lawman showed us how low of a standard that is.)
And that was it. I’m sure this story’s talking points are being slowly masticated into memetic goo in some corners of social media, but as far as the rest of the world is concerned, the story shot its wad and faded into nothing a week ago.
For a couple of news cycles, though, it may have distracted a few people from the fedgov’s despicable racist thuggery, which in turn is meant to distract people from the weakened dollar, and what’s happening to the deficit, and the increasing stormtrooper-ization of the entire law enforcement system, and the Assclown’s shambolic foreign policy, and the likelihood of him being a pedophile…
