The State Department isn’t pretending to care about human rights this year

I’m not actually surprised that the State Department is skewing its “human rights” reports to favor some countries over others; that has been the case since before I was born. Governmental hypocrisy is always worth calling out, though.

And then there’s this detail:

The 2025 reports also remove issues considered to be universally accepted human rights, including the right to a fair public trial; freedom of association and assembly; elections and political participation; government corruption; violence against women and minorities; and harassment of human rights organizations.

People who are already think the Assclown is following some kind of roadmap to fascist dictatorship will probably think that looks like an interesting list of issues; people who don’t should still be either worried or bitterly amused.

(And for those of you who think this is just more partisan bleating, the second link above comes from that well-known lefty propaganda mill, the George W. Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University.)
