The election-news vibe, from a non-voter’s perspective

I considered abstaining from the newsfeeds entirely yesterday but decided against it; instead I made sure to check them before noon, to keep the breathess exit-poll analysis to a minimum.

What I found instead, finally, was some get-out-the-vote evangelists, who clearly thought there must be someone who was still undecided at 10 or 11 AM on Election Day as to whether they’d participate in the ritual…

I was not that someone. I enjoyed a day off at home, caught up on some sleep, and woke up this morning feeling at peace with the world.

Before I went to work, I did scan a couple of local headlines:

  • Troy the Substitute unseated Susan the Eternal.
  • The governor is still a Democrat, but this one has been in government for only 24 years.
  • Bangor’s three new city councilors have been called “conservative” on the one day of the year when people acknowledge that City Hall’s denizens might have a political or party affiliation.

I was sure I’d hear all about the shifting national-level balance of power later, and I was right. When I scanned the socials today, it was nearly wall-to-wall election analysis…
