Detail of a local shopping center’s parking lot. This isn’t the worst part of it; all that sealant looks hideous but is serviceable enough to drive across. Some other parts of the lot have accidental speed bumps, and one of the driveway potholes would be deep enough to serve as a bathtub if it wasn’t on an incline.

I once had a neighbor who “maintained” his driveway the same way; he’d lived there for years, and the driveway was basically rubble the consistency of large gravel, held together by layer after layer of sealant. Then he left, and the bank/holding company/amorphous financial entity that took possession found out that he’d “maintained” the house in much the same way. They tried to ignore it for a while, but then the enclosed front porch collapsed…
