It was disconcerting to check the socials on my lunch break yesterday and learn that “we” are now at war with another country.
Before the Iraq War, we were told tales of truck-mounted chemical weapons labs, terrorist airline hijacker training facilities, and the atrocities committed by Iraq’s gov against its own subjects. (That last one might well have been true, or at least I’ve heard it repeated after it stopped being politically useful.) The process of selling the American people on the necessity of regime change took, IIRC, months.
Before the Assclown’s attack on Iran, we heard not nearly as much; only with the “benefit” of hindsight can we tell the difference between the gov’s recent blather and what it’s been saying about Iran for over four and a half decades now.
There were a few attempts to explain it afterward. The goal, we were told, was to obliterate Iran’s nuclear program (yet again). Or it was to avenge Iran’s (piddling) attempts at election interference. Or it was to (somehow) protect and benefit the Iranian people, who’ve been suffering under a series of tyrants (ever since the US foisted the Shah on them). Or it was because Iran didn’t give Trump the Nobel Peace Prize.
I made one of those up, but for all I know the blithering fuckheads running America’s alleged foreign policy might have made it true since the last time I checked.
Guesses as to the real motive have varied wildly; my best guess at the moment (other than “Trump is a manchild and wanted to smash stuff”) is that he and his courtiers thought a short, victorious war would make us all reflexively rally behind the flag or at least distract us from what worthless and disgusting alleged human beings they all are. He’s done it before.
It doesn’t seem to be working.

Trump is still a tyrant, a crook, an idiot, a bullshitter, and a pederast. And the sycophants and mercs surrounding him are still the kind of scum who would choose to work for him.
